You first notice the Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens is very well made. It does not have the "cheap" feel that is sometimes found in some of other Canon lenses. The focus and distance controls operate smoothly. The lens achieves focuses rather quickly and also quietly due to the use of a ring-type USM focusing motor. You also notice that the lens barrel neither extends or rotates during focusing or when adjusting the focal length. This is important as you can use a circular polarizer with this lens, although you may see some slight vignetting if you choose not use a slim polarizer. In most cases, this should not be a problem.
I was rather surprised with the overall image quality of the EF-S 10-22. For the most part, images are sharp and clear throughout most of the focal-length range. There is a slight amount of fuzziness apparent at around 11mm. It does become more noticeable, although not offensive, at 10mm. Center sharpness remains constant when shooting wide open or stopped-down, though there is the slightest amount of blur in the corners throughout all of the lens focal range.
I also expected distortion to be an problem with this lens, as with most other wide-angle lenses, but it never really was that noticeable. There is a slight amount of barrel distortion at wide end, mostly at 10mm. There is even less pincushion distortion at 22mm. From 12mm-20mm, there is very little distortion of any kind. This is very unusual for a wide-angle lens. Just as surprising, chromatic aberration was not a problem. There was an lack of any noticeable CA at 22mm. At 10mm the was the smallest amount,what was present could very easily be cleaned up with Photoshop.
Flare can be an issue with wide-angle lenses due to the physical structure of the lens. With a field-of-view that exceeds 107 degree at 10mm, you are likely to have some degree of flare from the sun or other lighting sources. The EF-S 10-22 does a good job in controlling lens flare, but for the absolute best results, you use the EW-83E hood, which unfortunately, Canon does not include except for their "L" quality glass.
Overall, this is a very impressive wide-angle lens. The EF-S 10-22mm would match up with most of the other Canon higher end professional glass in image quality and optical performance. One of the only apparent drawbacks I can find is the lack of weather sealing and also maybe the lack of an included hood and case. In all truthfulness, the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Ultra-Wide Angle Lens should be a "L". I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to become involved in wide-angle photography.

The result is most often a blurry and digitized picture. You can use both zooming effects in cameras that offer both these features.
Lens

Flash Types
It all started with photographers igniting a tray filled with gunpowder to illuminate a scene. Today digital cameras come with built in automatic flash unit combined with a sophisticated light measuring and exposure control system. They are so convenient and easy to use that we often fail to notice it. Digital cameras are specified by a guide number which basically gives the flash power. Higher the guide number, greater the flash's useful range. With changes in sensor speed and /or lens focal length, the guide number changes. So manufacturers instead specify the flash's maximum range with the assumption that flashes is fully charged and the lens aperture is wide open.
Some of the common modes:
Auto mode is well known! Cameras with red eye reduction mode first fires a short burst to close the subject's irises then the main flash and finally the picture is taken. Fill flash modes to fill in shadows.
Flash off mode to capture the object in natural light.
Night scene mode exposes the foreground subject without underexposure of background. For maximum flash flexibility select a camera with an external hot shoe.
Some models come with just the external flash units.
Some varieties have both external and built-in flash units.
Some very compact digital Camera models come with no flash units.
Focus Type
Most digital cameras have a combination of different focus modes. In the automatic mode, when you press the shutter-release button half-way down, the focus is locked. It is also confirmed by a change of color of the focus indicator.
The Auto focus is achieved in different modes. The most common of them is the single area focus mode. The focus is on the central area of the image you find on the screen. In the spot focus mode, the focus is precisely on the center area of the screen. For shooting slow moving objects you can use the continuous auto focus mode. Be aware of the huge consumption of power in this mode.
Manual focus- This feature allows you to manually focus on the portion of a scene which may or may not be at the center of the screen. Select the area to be focused by using one of the several focus area indicators by toggling a cursor button to achieve close ups and macro shots. Some models have the focus rings for manual focus, turn it till the subject is in focus.
Fixed focus- This feature can be used to your advantage when there is pre-determined distance between the camera and the object.

NiMH batteries are the most sought after ones today. They are rechargeable, last long, and come in various compact designs and no memory problems.
Alkaline ones are not rechargeable and don't last long.

While the Canon PowerShot SD780IS does deliver a fast start-up time of 1.5 seconds and a good shutter lag of 0.4 second in good lighting and 0.6 second in dim, the camera doesn't do so well with shot-to-shot times at 2.4 seconds without flash and almost 5 seconds with flash. Its continuous shooting mode was also rather slow at 0.8 frames per second. However, image quality more than made up for it with accurate colors and good clarity below ISO 200.
Overall, the Canon PowerShot SD780IS delivers great images and 720p HD movies in an extremely ultra-compact package making it ideal for the handbag or pouch. While its grip is quite comfortable, the flat controls make it a bit more suitable for those with slim fingers while the extra feature-set should appeal to everyone.

The reason why I initially wanted to review this camera is because of the small size, it is possibly the smallest digital camera that I have ever seen. Sometimes small can be excellent however if you have big hands like I do then it could be a problem, however because of the simple layout of the SD780IS this wasn't a problem. There was nothing too fiddly about the design which made it easy for me to access all of the features on the camera, even with my big hands.
The camera has a 3 times optical zoom which is excellent for taking pictures of friends at the beach or at a nightclub or any other every day occasion really. This camera also offers the option to record high definition video which is excellent for capturing those special moments.

The Canon PowerShot SD780IS has built in image stabilisation which keeps your images sharp even for those people who haven't got the steadiest of hands. The camera also features an impressive 12megapixel cmos sensor which means that by using this camera you will have more megapixels than entry level professional DSLR cameras. One downside to this is that you will need a larger memory card simply because your images will be so big and of high quality.

For such a small price this small little camera could possibly be the best camera that I have tested this year. The little camera is small enough to fit in any of my pockets without being obtrusive. It performs well in low light conditions and because of the high iso settings on this camera you can use this camera in low light conditions where flash isn't allowed.
If you're looking for the cheapest digital camera that produces excellent images then I highly recommend the Canon PowerShot SD780IS.
