Great camera for what it is... small, inexpensive and stylish. I carry it when going out at night with friends, and anytime I even think I might want a picture... It is so small that I forget it is there! Night shots, image stability are not the best, but Im still learning how to use it to get the best pics in those conditions.For the $200 it is a really small, fast, well built camera. I placed order on October 18th and after 6 days I got an email from Amzaon mentioning that the order is delayed. When I placed the order the item was showing "In Stock". Now my order will be delivered on November 5th. I called Amazon customer service line and twice hung up upon. Third time, I spoke to Michelle, Supervisor, and she mentioned I cannot cancel the order and order will come by Nov 5 - Nov 12th. I feel like hostage at this time as I wanted camera by certain time. I can not buy it from other place and will have to be at mercy of Amazon to deliver product when it gets here. Amazon still shows that this item is IN STOCK with green light.

I had a Canon PS 710IS and decided to change to a SD 780IS due to the tiny size and portability

Pros:
Tiny size ans easy to carry
Good quality movies
Fast shutter - allows to take more than 2 pictures in 2 seconds
Excelent battery life - taking more than 200 pictures with one full charge

Contras:
Seems to be fragile - don't drop it
poor optical zoom - should be at least 4 x
do not use rechargeable common batteries
Diffcicult to use special effects and faetures

For my amateur and sporadical use due to the excelent portability this camera fits.

I'm a member of Canon Professional Services and make my living using Canon cameras.
I have owned a number of point & shoot digital cameras, all Canon.

First the good. The 780IS is sleek and tiny. For a $200 camera, it creates pretty darn good HD video. Much better than expected. Nice still images on bright sunny days with non-moving subjects.

Unfortunately, we (bought for my wife) didn't buy for its video capabilities, but to mainly capture images of our young kids. The Canon 780IS is a train wreck in the photographing moving kids department.

The shutter lag problem is the big deal breaker here. Push the shutter and wait wait wait. Holy cow, is anything happening? finally a photograph is made, literally 1 second, sometimes 2 seconds later. The 780IS is the absolute worst digital camera i have ever owned. AVOID it at all costs if you're taking photographs of anything that moves (kids, pets, smiles, emotion). In low-light or a with a moving subject this thing performs worse than my very first powershot (circa 2000). Amazing that Canon would put out such a POS.

I'd been shopping around for a new camera, and bought the Canon Powershot 1100IS, but I wasn't pleased with it. It didn't seem to do much more than my old camera, which is nearly 5 years old. So then I came across the 780IS and I love it! I'm a college student, so it was fun to have one in such a bright red color! Also, it easily fits into my pocket, so I can carry it around to football games or parties or wherever else I go. Also, the color accent feature is a lot of fun. It's easy to use, and you can create some really neat pictures with hardly any work involved. It's great!
